Who Is Marc Jonson ?

While still in High School in 1966, Marc Jonson’s group “The Gay Intruders” recorded a two song demo called IN THE RACE backed with IT’S NOT TODAY now available from Munster Records. Two years later after quitting high school and taking on a part time job driving a cab in his hometown of Merrick, Long Island … Marc made the decision to map a path for the future. Assembling a nine song demo tape, recorded on a TEAC A-1200U tape deck made over the course of a one year period, Marc took the train into Manhattan with his songs and entered the 1650 Broadway lobby. He knew this building had “vibe!” It was known then as “the other Brill Building.”

Marc knocked on a 5th floor door, played his tape for the person who then called her friend at RCA Records and twenty minutes later the head of the  RCA Jazz department, Elliot Horne was listening to Marc’s music.

A bidding war ensued quickly and Marc found himself producing his debut solo album YEARS, for Vanguard Records.

Most recently YEARS and other Marc Jonson albums, 12 in a room and Groova Tizmo have been re-discovered by Munster Records and are now available on vinyl.

Marc and Spain’s own “Pop critic favorite” Victor Ramirez from Ramirez Exposure have two volumes of a CD they call TURNING ON THE CENTURY,  made together file sharing from their native countries.

Dozens of artists have recorded or performed Marc Jonson compositions including Paul Butterfield, Robert Gordon, Dave Edmunds, The Roches, The Smithereens, Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky, Richard Barone, Michael Fracasso, Gunner Nelson, Steve Forbert, Willie Nile, Carolyne Mas, Loudon Wainwright and others.

Marc was nominated three times for the BMI/New York Music Awards winning BEST NEW SONGWRITER one year.

Marc’s performances for “Eastbound & Down” (Ben Best, Jody Hill and Danny McBride, 2009-2013) and “Physical” (Annie Weissman, 2021) have demonstrated Marc’s urban sound works for the cinema.

Marc Jonson songs have made their way onto Disney’s FAST TRACKS and OCEAN FAVORITES companion CD’s for the the Blockbuster films Cars and Finding Nemo including performances by Marc on FAST TRACKS.

Marc’s team up with Spanish band Compania de Suenos Ilimitada

Yielded “My Girlfriend Doesn’t Like the Ramones” backed with “I Don’t Wanna Go to School Today”

released on Munster Records.

Onward and forward …
